Loyola Marymount University (LMU) Expands Local Presence by Leasing in Playa Vista

Playa Vista will soon be home to Loyola Marymount University’s newest campus! This will be located within the Brickyard development, the new 425,000+ square foot commercial development in Playa Vista! The Brickyard is located at 12100 West Waterfront Drive and will also house other office and retail tenants.

Loyola Marymount has recently expanded its film and tech programs and partnerships, and this move is a continuation of such. With their new 50,000+ square foot space in Playa Vista, LMU will plan to host events as well as be home to the School of Film & Television’s graduate program.

This program has partnerships with industry giants like Disney and 20th Century Fox. With the influx of tech and entertainment companies to Playa Vista, also known as Silicon Beach, this location will better serve students for careers in the field.

President of LMU Timothy Law Snyder said of having a Playa Vista location that it’s “a game-changer…Silicon Beach is one of the world’s fastest-growing startup ecosystems — an ideal counterpart for LMU as the definitive center for global imagination and its impacts.”

The Playa Vista campus is slated to open in the Fall of 2018. LMU is currently working with the owner, Tishman Speyer, on designing their classrooms and creative spaces.

Loyola Marymount is based just up the hill from Playa Vista in Westchester, and currently enrolls over 9,100 students. The school also has a downtown Los Angeles location, home to its law school. This is the first major expansion for Loyola Marymount since 1999, when it had acquired approximately 1 million square feet and stretched its main campus to Lincoln Boulevard.
